New Cross-Border Taxi Pickup Points & Fares (2026)

The Singapore–Malaysia cross-border taxi scheme was expanded on 4 May 2026, giving travellers more pickup points and, for the first time, the freedom to be dropped off almost anywhere across the border. If you cross the Causeway regularly, here is what actually changed, the new street-hail fares, and how the official scheme compares with a private pre-booked transfer.

What changed on 4 May 2026?

Under the updated bilateral arrangement announced by the Singapore and Malaysia Ministries of Transport, licensed cross-border taxis can now drop off passengers anywhere in Singapore, and anywhere in Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai and Senai on the Malaysian side. Previously, drop-offs were far more restricted.

Pick-ups in the “foreign” country still have to start from designated points — but the list of those points has grown, making the scheme much more practical for everyday travellers and tourists who do not want to backtrack to a single terminal.

New pickup points in Singapore

Malaysian cross-border taxis can now pick up passengers in Singapore at four designated points:

• Ban San Street Terminal — the original designated point, near Bugis
• Near VivoCity (Harbourfront MRT)
• Near Century Square Shopping Mall (Tampines MRT)
• Joo Koon (Joo Koon MRT)

Spreading pickups across the east (Tampines), west (Joo Koon), south (Harbourfront) and the city (Ban San) means far less cross-island travel just to start your trip north.

Pickup points in Johor Bahru

On the Malaysian side, cross-border taxis operate from hubs including Larkin Terminal, Toppen Shopping Centre, Mid Valley Southkey Mall and Angsana Mall, with drop-offs now permitted across the wider JB, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai and Senai area. That makes the scheme genuinely useful for shopping trips, Legoland visits and Senai Airport runs.

How much do cross-border street-hail taxis cost?

The scheme uses fixed government-set fares rather than a meter. From Ban San Street Terminal in Singapore (to Larkin or destinations up to 35 km):

Street-hail scheme vs a private pre-booked transfer

The expanded scheme is great news for flexibility, but it is still a street-hail service: you queue at a designated point and take whatever vehicle is next, at the set fare. Which should you choose?

If you are travelling light, happy to start from a designated point, and want the lowest set fare, the street-hail scheme now works well.
